I think that just like this video demonstrated, the future of group work, will first of all no longer be physical, but completely virtual, and that the notion of 'group' will no longer be used, as it refers to "A number of people or things that are located close together or are considered or classed together". Furthermore, these groups will no longer be small groups, but with the speed of sharing, rather a large community, of people we won't even know, yet somehow will connected through ideas.
I believe this represents an outstanding idea, creating exchange of talent through out a virtual mean. It shows that we have overcome physical boundaries and we are leading to a globalization of every life experience....
In my opinion this video proves how future group work will look like. Another way to communicate, inform, or simply brainstorming. Technology take more and more an important place in our daily life and shows us how to regroup, in a easy way, a group of person coming from all around the world in order to share a common experience.
We can see with this video, how thanks to the new technologies, the world evolves and barriers between persons, cultures… disappear. In the video, people all around the world participate and share the same experience at the same time. I think that the group work of future will use these methods to communicate between them, by making for example virtual conferences, groups of project etc. It will allow them to have a better freedom of expression and a better communication between their partners. They can share their advice, experiences, information, in an easier way than before.
This video is a real "WOW"! I found the concept amazing and the final version of the choir really gave me the gooseflesh!! Sharing one's voice with 2000 other ones from unkown people all around the world is the beautiful proof of the power coming from digital! Nowadays, internet is polluted with violence and vulgarity. This video is the demonstration that it can also create "beautiful things", driven by fraternity, share, benevolence and love. This achievement is full of optimism. If i had to make a criticism, i would say that even if beautiful "communities" may be created through the intermediary of internet/the digital, face to face is irreaplacable and provides emotions that may not be replaced by the technology... This eploit is however stunning and really enjoyable!!!! The first one before many others i hope!!! :)
I love that video, it was so emotional! Not only because of the beauty of the final music, but also because we can see all these people actually connected to each other by the same dream to realize that project. It is a good way to collect the best talents from all over the world; the result is very harmonious. To my opinion the concept is very innovative but I don't know if it totally represents "group work" since in a company you can't only have a virtual relationship with your team members. In the video we can see that there is not any verbal exchange in the team work, it just corresponds to a kind of collaboration.
Very good idea for accessibility to anyone, well if you have an internet connection I mean ! It allows to gather so many people from everywhere that could never join the choir. This is definitely a participative action.
WOW I love that TED talk, this is amazing and soooo inspiring!!! More than an incredible experience, this virtual choir clearly demonstrates that TODAY collaboration and group work can drive to something bigger. In this case, they succeed to gather people from all over the world in the same place -without constraints of transports, visas, budget, availabilities, timing and so on- but also to reach every kind of audience thanks to internet. Digital tools definitely help to boarden barriers, create opportunities since they allow people to collaborate by joining their skills even if they don't usually work together.
Finally I totally agree with Alexandra when she says that 'group' will no longer refers to people that are located close to each other. Actually, the spread of IT has totally changed the landscape and for many reasons that kind of collaboration won't be the exception but THE RULE.
The virtual choir is very inspiring and underlines that with todays ‘technology it’s possible to gather virtually to share moments, interests and information. Material barriers or limits have been pushed to allow people to focus on projects and lead actions together.
This possibility to learn and exchange on line could be used for shared learning and seminar. I think that group work can be even richer when people are geographically far away from each other. The example developed in the video highlights the feasibility of a worldwide group project involving numerous people who have never meet.
My idea would be for university or companies to create virtual seminar software. It will be a sort of “second-life” but work group oriented. People could evolve to catch conferences or interact two by two or in groups. They will have at their disposal tools like Skype, Prezi and other creation tools to work as groups. It would be perfect if users could have 3D and augmented reality views. Because as we can see it in the video, even if people are working virtually together the results is better when we can actually see all participants in the video clip.
wow! the virtual choir is absolutely incredible... One more time, the virtual choir concept show us the large diversity in possibilities offered by digital use. people are now able to realize their dreams thanks to digital technologies. This concept really push further creativity and gives to the project a dimension never seen before. Moreover, in a traditional choir you can't join a group work as you want because of strict selection barriers, while in a virtual choir they only ask you to share your talent. whatever your age your expertise level or wherever the place you come from, they only want you as you are; and that makes the project even more special. Let me explain myself: people are no more afraid of express themselve, with this project type, they are pleased to contribute and to share with others around a common goal and common dream. In my opinion this could clearly be the future of group work because people are free to share creativity and talent without contraints
This video is amazing! We feel emmotions so well through a computer and that is the base of this achievement. This a way of interaction between people who maybe did not have the opportunity or possibility to share their passion together... This is a great concept that gives hope for the future because there is no boundary constraints. People adapted to barriers by finding more and more solutions over the past generations. It proves that there is always a way to share interests and love with everybody regardless of their location and life.
The virtual choir is a marvelous metaphor of brainstorming. Every individual is unique and has a unique talent. But put together, all of those talents transform themselves in one only bigger and unbeatable talent! Distance is not a constraint anymore. As the mobility grows, the frontiers disappear. One day or another, we will all become citizens of the world and no matter where we are, we will be able (we are nowadays able) to communicate with people at 12 hours of time difference as easy as if they were in front of us. Shy people, lonely people don´t feel shy or lonely anymore. They can express themselves and there is always someone that listens to them maybe not today but perhaps tomorrow. Even loving relationships are at a distance away! Governments should learn so much about this collaboration. Great things could be done economically, politically and socially. Everything is already interdependent so it is useless to fight against it. This interdependency can only be developed more and more.
So, no, distance doesn't and won´t matter. However, in my opinion, something very special will be lost and this is the direct physical contact with people. That is what makes hospitality special for me. Will people continue to travel?Or they will travel from home, in front of a screen? It makes me a little sad that one part of our job will be lost...
the video is really captivating, the man is charismatic and it shows how people can work as group but very far from each other... and the result is so amazing is that even better that if they were a real choir. we see that everyone have a unique talent and put all this talent together make a really strong choir.
moreover this way of work gather more people than if they must meet together in a certain place. we see that people will find any link to be connect with other people. they're connect for this common idea and that is even better. it shows again the huge diversity of the digital use. no matter how far you are, how old are you and your social class you can work together and put your talent in common on a wanted idea.. and as the video point out, it make an amazing stuff.
This TED talk is very inspired and very impressive, we can see how sharing and interacting can look like in the future. Based on what you like or care about you can then work as a group in a new efficient way. Digital medias are connecting peoples and are meant to evolve and touch many more peoples, it will break the barriers of time, location and presence. The virtual choir is the next step to exchange and discussion according to peoples willing and interest. This should be the next revolution like skype or messenger were at their times. New idea for a new world in perpetual change.
